ASSOCIATION

CRIME PREVENTION PAGE

Working together, the residents of Brierwood can have a significant impact in the prevention of criminal activity and crime in our community. To help us in this endeavor, we are asking residents to keep in mind the following suggestions:

WHEN AT HOME:
  1. Do not leave your garage door open unattended.
  2. Know the neighbors around you and report any suspicious activity to the police (non-emergency number 630-0500).
  3. Keep your home well lit.
  4. Do not leave valuable items in view in a parked vehicle and always keep the door of your vehicle locked when it's unattended.
  5. Report any abandoned vehicles to the police (non-emergency number 630-0500)

WHILE SHOPPING:

  1. When you are shopping, do not place your purse in the truck while in the parking lot. A raised trunk is a signal to someone that there's something valuable being placed there.
  2. Do not place valuable items (purse, etc.) under a coat, or other item, in the back seat. Thieves view a coat in the back seat as a likely spot for or a purse or other item to be placed under.
WHEN TRAVELING:
  1. Lawn: Continue to have your lawn mowed.
  2. Garbage: Have a neighbor place some garbage bags out for you on garbage night.
  3. Newspaper: Discontinue your newspaper delivery. (Be sure to have someone pick up any newspapers that still get delivered by mistake.)
  4. Mail: Discontinue your mail delivery. (Be sure and have someone check your mail box for mail delivered by mistake. Also, rather than having your mail restarted on a specific date, you may want to consider having your mail held at the post office until you pick it up and then restart your mail delivery.)
